4 Things to Look for in a Casual Shirt

<img src="{{media url="wysiwyg/mens-casual-shirts.jpg"}}" alt="Mens Casual Shirts" />

When you’re looking for mens casual shirts to wear with a pair of jeans or a pair of chinos, there are four things to look for to ensure that it looks great on you each and every time.

The first thing is that it hangs down straight in front of you. If it tugs at your stomach or gets hung up around your sides, you’ll need to get a size larger. This way it will fit no matter what – even if you place a coordinated t-shirt underneath in the colder months or for an added design element.

Next, you will need to make sure that the casual shirt has a collar. The collar should be stiff enough to stand on its own. This will avoid it flopping over and looking messy. A casual shirt should never be in the form of just a t-shirt unless you’re wearing it underneath a button down (with a collar). Whether you choose a shirt that has a button down collar or not is entirely up to you.

Third, the casual shirt should hang down past the waist line of your pants. If it’s any shorter, you’ll show stomach when you lift your arms, which is very unattractive. It will also prevent you from properly tucking in your shirt should you go that route. If you can’t find a shirt that long, it’s probably because of your height, which means you need to look in the tall department of the clothing stores.

Finally, you need to make sure that the color coordinates properly with your skin tone and with whatever you plan on wearing it with. Just because other people are wearing lime green or orange shirts doesn’t mean that you should.

How to Choose the Right Length of Pants

How to choose the best pants length

<img style="float: right;" title="How to Find the Right Size Pants" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/mens-pants-length.png"}}" alt="" />Every man in the world assumes that he knows what size pants he wears. The first number is the waist size and the second number is the inseam. Many people focus on the inseam as directly proportionate to height, though this isn’t necessarily accurate. It should be the measurement of the true inseam, which is actually the length of the leg.

It’s important to have this number correctly so that the pants rest at the correct height when you get dressed with a pair of shoes. To avoid taking a measurement to the side of your leg, there’s a way to check for the right size every time you try on a pair of pants.

The pants should rest about ¼ to ½ an inch above the heel of your shoe. This goes the same with dress shoes and dress pants as they do with jeans and sneakers. Nothing more than ½ an inch above the heel.

The reason for this is very simple. If you decide to go for anything more than ½ an inch above the heel, that is, a shorter inseam than you actually need, then you’ll be showing too much of your sock with every step you take. If you go longer than what you need, the pant falls over the heel of your shoe when you walk and you end up ripping out the cuff of your pants. This is why many men end up with tailored pants. ½ an inch can make a big difference in the proper fit.

A Shirt Can Be the Clue to a Guy’s Relationship Status

<img style="float: right;" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/relationship-status.jpg"}}" alt="" />A hidden secret that guys might not know is that women are just as picky about what you have on as they do. You can always tell whether a guy is single or attached by the shirt that he wears. There are shirts that scream "my girlfriend" bought this for me and those that say "I did the sniff check with this one". The best way for you to dress is to find one in between. Although women don’t like to go after a guy who is in a relationship, they want a guy who cares about the way that he looks, although not too much.

Women like a guy who can keep up with the latest styles, but not a guy who looks like he put more into getting dressed than she did. Nothing turns them on more than a guy who has on a casual button down, untucked, and classic. The outfit that says "I am secure with myself" is one that is not trendy, but classic. Shirts come in and out of style quickly, but those that are only a flash in a pan are the ones to avoid. They don’t want a guy who spends time reading fashion magazines; they want a guy who looks like he just grabbed the first thing in his closet and made it look good. We all like a guy who looks like he can be spontaneous and sexy, not sloppy or vain.

Eco-friendly Linen Fabric

Linen and the Green world

Almost every day in our lives we come across articles in newspapers and magazines about being more environmentally conscious. We hear political leaders be it Obama or David Cameron preaching about how we need to live in a more “green” world and how we can make a difference by adopting a few simple rules.

Well I thought it was time that I give you my take on some hard serious facts about my most beloved fabric of all LINEN.

Linen is the world’s oldest known fabric and it is the world's most ecological fabric. Linen is woven from the fibers of the flax plant and is a completely natural resource.

While only the very best fibers are used by the linen industry, no part of the flax plant is wasted; the left over linseeds, oil, straws and fibers are used in everything from soap, to cattle feed and paper. Few products are also efficiently used as flax.

The production of linen fabric uses 5 to 20 times less water and energy than the production of cotton or other synthetic fabrics. Linen fabrics are biodegradable and recyclable.

Flax is grown in many parts of the world, but top quality premium flax is primarily grown in Western Europe. The climate of western European countries like France, Belgium and Ireland are ideal for flax cultivation.

Some of the features that other fabrics can only aspire to have;

Natural breathing: Linen is truly comfortable and nice to wear in any season. It is insulating in winter and breathable in summer due to its thermoregulatory properties.

Moisture -absorbent: it's double moisture absorption capacity than cotton makes it the “Thirstiest Fabric ".

Anti bacterial: Linen is a “Health Fabric” because it is inherently anti-bacterial.

UV- protective: Linen protects the skin from harmful UV rays and sun allergies.

So there you have it, the information above are true facts regarding this amazing fabric, it truly is my favorite fabric and if you want to save the world then buy a pudu linen garment :) and add to the greenness that this world needs more of.

How to Dress at 30 - Fashion Advice for Men

Men's Style For 30's

<img style="float: right;" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/how-to-dress-at-30.jpg"}}" alt="How to Dress at 30" />Dressing in your 20's seemed to be a breeze, everything fitted and it seemed a time of waltzing into a store, knowing most pieces are designed to fit you like a glove. But, as we turn the page into the 30’s, that story changes a bit.

As the big three-zero arrives, a man should know what image he is trying to display, even if he cannot put a name or category to the image. By now preferences will have been formed and key items will have been well-worn. Unlike the twenties, in this blog I won’t be discussing the image that clothes bring and the like because by now you should have a firm grasp of what works with your body type, skin color etc. and what you like and don’t like.

Instead, in this blog we’ll be looking at how the thirty year old male can look his best and what should be to hand from the wardrobe. Once again it’s important to note that these are general suggestions and are not for everyone. Whilst being a cross country phenomena and influential art form, fashion boils down to being something extremely personal. So be sure to wear things for the right reason – because you like and feel confident wearing it.

All this talk makes thirty seem like a time for heavy herringbone jackets and freshly polished walking-sticks, but we all know how young thirty is in this day and age. Men are interested in fashion like never before, there is increased emphasis on working out and looking good, and generally we are much more receptive to grooming products and regimes that keep us looking our youthful best for much longer. For many of you well into your thirties, I am sure that you still get mistaken for much younger – hell, you may even LOOK younger now than when you were in your twenties.

Again, this emphasizes the point that we can only give you general advice – YOU will know your own look, body and youthfulness better than anyone. Remember that if you feel comfortable in something that might be classed as ‘young’ then keep rocking it! Staying comfortable will keep you confident – which has always been your best accessory. Just remember there is an extremely thin line that you need to be aware of when clinging to items or looks that no longer suit you. Just use common sense.

The counter argument to this is that even though you may still want to dress like a twenty something and could easily get away with it, a mature wardrobe can actually gain the wearer sartorial brownie points and have them looking the best they ever have. You may even find your influence rubbing off on younger guys you interact with, who start integrating touches of your own finely honed style into their look. When you were younger, you were probably following the trends and experimenting, now you are setting them and creating your own individual take on them.

For me personally I have a few staples in my always increasing wardrobe. Again all the stuff listed below works for me and my style so.....

A few good pairs of well worn faded jeans... I don't do dark denim.

A classic well cut navy or black velvet jacket that can be worn with most things. Also a worn leather jacket is a must...well I believe at least.

A few pudu linen shirts (of course) in colors that always work ...WHITE and WHITE (I can never have enough white) though recently I am very partial to latte, navy blue and sky blue. I do have a few hot pink and screaming green to remind me that I still feel 25 :).

A couple of pairs of well worn linen drawstring pants.

A couple of well cut Oxford shirts. I have at least 4 classic white shirts.

A couple of pairs of well worn pudu cargo pants.

A couple of cashmere v neck pullovers. I favor navy and bright red.

A well cut single breasted suit in black, navy or charcoal.

A couple of worn in cargo style shorts or my trusted pudu check shorts.

A couple of great polo t shirts and a bunch of v neck and round neck T's in different colors.

A great worn tan belt with a classic metal buckle, a tan classic belt and a black classic belt.

Lastly great feet wear. I am a sucker for good footwear... (My wife thinks I am bananas)... Firstly a classic pair of black and tan brogues, a pair of industrial boots, a pair of classic loafers, a pair of leather slippers and a pair of white deck shoes. These are the basics I would recommend however if you like colored footwear then go for it as long as it suits you. :)

So there you go...as you dress for the 30's make sure that your wardrobe resembles more of the person you are NOW !!!!

Jeans Are Hot, But Not All the Time

<img style="float: right;" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/jeans.jpg"}}" alt="" />There is nothing better than that pair of jeans that fit you just like a glove. Just so we are on the same page, as much as you like wearing them, girls like seeing you in them. On a Saturday there is nothing we love more than watching you lounge in those old worn out hotties that say you are all about the comfort and loyalty of remaining with your old favorites. Every once in a while, however, we like it when you mix it up and add a pair of pants.

There are so many different styles of casual pants; you should have no problem finding a pair that fit just as well as your favorite pair of jeans. Mixing things up is always a good idea, and wearing a pair of khakis or chinos that show off your backside, can make us give you a second look. Casual pants just don’t get the credit for hotness that they should. If the pants are the right fit and show off your assets correctly, they will drive us crazy.

Comfort and casualness is the name of the game for those pair of casual pants. They should look like they are a part of you, not like you are trying to impress someone. With the right pair you won’t need to try to impress us, it will happen naturally. There is only one thing we’d like to see you in other than a pair of hot casual pants, without them.

Linen, once known as the rich man’s fabric because, only the upper class was able to afford this wonderful and costly fabric back in the days. Today, different types of Linen are available so just about everyone can afford to wear Linen.

We at Pudu Lifestyle specialize in this magical fabric and only make our linen garments out of the finest French yarn that has a super soft feel on the skin and tends to wear extremely well over long periods of time. The White Linen shirt for Men is ideal to wear for many outdoor, tropical, beach or summer events. And, because Linen is a great conductor of heat, it makes it perfect for hot weather climates; also, crisp to the touch still airy and very comfortable fabric. Men’s Linen shirts can be casual or elegant depending on the style of the shirt.

The Mens White Linen Shirt long sleeve (Amalfi in the Pudu collection) is an absolute must have in every man’s wardrobe. I say this because this has got to be one of the most versatile garments a man can possess. You can wear this shirt anytime day or night and you just cannot go wrong with it. To wear casually it teams brilliantly with denim, khakis, drawstring pants or almost any kind of shorts. The relaxed fabric gives you that easy effortless and trendy feel. When wearing casually, I always roll up my sleeves to mid way up your forearm and never completely tuck at waist if I tuck at all :)

How to Wear a Mens Casual White linen Shirt?

To dress up a white linen shirt you can do so many things. A classic navy or grey v neck sweater immediately smartens up the look. To be a bit more daring I normally wear a cherry red v neck or quite often a tangerine v neck over my white linen shirt, it gives it a daring, edgy yet very classy look. I tend to pair this with faded jeans or well cut chinos and always wear a beautiful pair of leather soled tan shoes. If the temperature is a bit cooler I tend to add a contrasting scarf to give me that really sexy feel. For an evening out, I wear a well cut single breasted navy blazer, a black velvet blazer or a grey pin stripe blazer with my linen shirt to take the level of sophistication a few notches up. When wearing a jacket with my long sleeved linen shirt I tend to keep my sleeves buttoned down with a classic omega seamaster watch on my wrist.

So as you can see the white long sleeve linen shirt is probably the most versatile garment you will posses in your wardrobe as it can be worn anywhere, anytime or with anything.

So if you don’t have one (I recommend 3 personally), it’s time you get one :)

Peter Pan Never Wore A Belt

<img style="float: right;" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/Peter_Pan.png"}}" alt="Peter Pan" />There is nothing less attractive to women than Peter Pan. There is a reason why it is a man’s favorite tale, and rarely a women’s. There is nothing more unattractive to a woman than a man who refuses to grow up. If you are a guy who doesn’t own a belt, or ever wear one, then that says to a woman that you are a little like Peter Pan, you haven’t fully grown up yet.

There is perhaps one thing that is less attractive to women than Peter Pan, pants or jeans that are falling down to a guy’s knee. The style of pants hanging down past the boxers has, and will always, be barely accepted in two places, high school and prison. If you are in neither of them then for our sake, please hike those pants up where they belong.

Belts are accessories that say to the world that you are an adult and realize that people don’t want to see your underwear, or worse yet, your plumbers crack. A belt can make any outfit hotter whether you need one or not. It is a simplistic addition to your outfit that says more about your maturity than any other accessory you can add. A belt ties an entire outfit together and shows the world that you put some time and effort into your appearance. It is important, however, to pick the right belt. An old classic leather is almost always the best way to go. If Peter Pan was to wear a belt, it would probably have had tassels.

Why Your Threads Matter

<img style="float: right;" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/why-your-threads-matter_1.jpg"}}" alt="" />Have you ever noticed that people react differently to you based on what you are wearing? Do certain outfits get you special treatment and others the silent treatment? Have you ever been offered an upgrade when flying because you are wearing a fantastic suit? Have trackies made you feel ordinary when at the super market shopping especially when you see a well dressed man? If you have answered yes to any of these questions then you have experienced the social dynamics of clothing.

Judging someone solely on their attire seems a bit unfair, but wake up, we do it all the time and whether I am sporting Armani or Target, I'm still the same person. But hang on, you looked at me differently when you saw me in a sharp suit and now that I have on Target trackies you are not that impressed by me?

So here goes, looks matter and there's no reason why I can't use that to my advantage.

So you may be thinking, ass! I kind of already knew that. But I want to scratch the surface a bit further. My goal is to offer you facts that make you rethink your outfit when you stand in front of the mirror in the morning. I want to show you that by picking the right clothes it can prove to be immensely valuable specially when it comes to impressing women, making money and the way people treat you in general.

There have been several studies where women rated the attractiveness of a single man dressed in several different getups. The outfits ranged from him wearing a designer suit dressed as a businessman down to a mechanic overall. As you can imagine most women chose the power suit to the mechanic outfit, but it's why they chose the businessman that's important. The study notes that girls actively sought signs of "status" when judging the man’s clothes and they liked that look better because it suggested a good provider, a classy guy, well to do (not suggesting that if you don’t wear a suit you are not). In other words women care about what you wear, they form opinions based on what you have on. So, clothes can be a tool to boost your standing with the opposite sex, but what kind of style should you be channeling? Fortunately you do not have to be a millionaire to win a lady's hand, more realistically you just have to nail the right details and make sure you feel comfortable and can carry them off. If you are not the suit wearing kind then opt for something less formal but still classic and you can put your own twist on the classic. You just can't go wrong with classic styles as long as they suit your personality. Use your imagination when it comes to colors; pick colors that suit your skin type but more importantly that you feel comfortable wearing.

Clothes affect how people judge you

When you first meet someone they instantly assess everything about you based on your outfit, they have already formed an opinion consciously or subconsciously about you based on your attire. You walk through the door and- bam - their mind goes into overdrive. Hot, yuck, successful, loser, gay, try hard, interesting, wow, man whore, prick ,wannabe, hotshot....are some of the expressions that come to your mind smiling ? That’s probably because you know this is true. You have done this yourself a million times :).

The most important rule about dressing is that you always wear outfits that are you, there is no point trying to copy an outfit that David Beckham wears if you don't have the frame and personality to carry it off. It's excessively important to wear clothes that make you feel like "you" and give you a sense of confidence. If you don't believe in your attire no one else will. That is not to say you are a complex and multi layered person who experiences different moods on different days. If your temperament calls for a dangerous night, opt for a black leather jacket over your shirt, if you're feeling debonair and can’t shake Sinatra from your head reach for a classic charcoal suit and tie. If you're on a first date a well cut pair of jeans, a linen shirt and a v neck cardigan always spells class. Always trust your gut and wear what you feel because people can sense when your outfit has you uncomfortable and we don't want that at all, because we want you being the man you are.

Why Amalfi

The Amalfi Coast is Stunning! It is picture perfect, ridiculously exclusive and everything luxury travel magazine editors like to use to splash a front cover with. The rugged and beautiful Amalfi coast in Italy is found south of Naples and is home to iconic towns of Ravello, Atrani, Amalfi, Positano as well as the island of Capri.

A couple of years ago my wife Anu and I had decided to tour Europe for 6 weeks and of this 3 weeks were to be spent in magical Italy. After a week in mystical Rome we hopped on a train that took us south to Naples. We did not like the feel of Naples (dirty and arrogant), so got the next available ferry to Amalfi. Wow, is all we could say as our ferry was approaching this beautiful little seaside town. We were lucky to have pre booked ourselves into a charming little hotel on the hill overlooking million dollar yachts that gleamed in the sunshine, it almost felt a bit surreal. After settling in to our charming hotel we grabbed our sunnies and headed out the door. The first thing I noticed as we stepped out was how well everyone was dressed. Women in colorful fitted dresses and unshaved Italian men zipping around on vespas. It was so refreshing to see people dressed so well.

Effortless is the way I describe what I saw, men wearing beautiful crisp linen shirts, colored shorts and trousers and masculine leather sandals, it almost felt like we were on the set of an Old Italian movie. This is where I got the inspiration for our classic linen shirt that I decided to name after this iconic little seaside town.

While most people don’t think too much of this we give you a spin on wearing something that is casual yet classy and makes a statement without being too brash.

A white collared linen shirt is timeless and an essential in every man’s wardrobe, this shirt is definitely one of this summer's must-haves. This particular one by Pudu Lifestyle has pockets on the chest, adding some detail to the classic white shirt and giving it a real masculine look.
